PRESIDENT'S SPEECH IN MEMORY OF FRANCIS MCEVOY

Vale Francis McEvoy

Irish Wolfhound Owner, Exhibitor, Breeder and Judge

It is with sadness and compassion that we take a moment to remember the life of Francis McEvoy, who left this life , surrounded by his family in his last moments, a week ago on Saturday 28th September 2024.

Frances spent most of his lifetime being involved with dogs, particularly Irish Wolfhounds and he spent it more deeply involved than most other people achieve.

Francis kept learning about dogs throughout his life, and he applied that learning to his breeding of Irish Wolfhounds, where Anne and he exhibited and bred Irish Wolfhounds for over 40 years, selectively importing quality Irish Wolfhounds from his many contacts overseas.

Francis also became an All Breeds conformation judge and an accredited judge assessor, and was invited, amongst others, to judge Irish Wolfhound specialties around the world, where Francis was respected as a very knowledgeable dog judge.

Relevant to our show here today, a measure of Francis and Anne's breeding success is that of the 86 Irish Wolfhound Club of NSW championship shows run so far, their Tirowen prefix has won Best In Show 15 times, or roughly 20%.

Francis left behind his family and his dogs to carry on his legacy.

Given more preparation time , it is likely we would have renamed this show the Francis McEvoy Memorial Show in order to honour his commitment to , and achievements in , the breed here in Australia and around the world.

Rest in Peace Francis, hopefully with a dog by your side.
